Reynolds Recipient of 2007 Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence

(Fairfax, Va.) During its Annual Meeting last week in Orlando, the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) presented the 2007 Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence to Len Reynolds, CLU, retired executive of BISYS Life Insurance Services.

“Len clearly demonstrates excellence in brokerage,” one of Reynolds’ nominators stated.  “He has been a leader in the development of the life brokerage industry and has a strong community service record.”

As a 30+-year veteran of the insurance industry, Reynolds is a recognized innovator and pioneer in life brokerage.  Reynolds began his independent life brokerage career by helping to create the industry’s first term spreadsheet and retired after helping to create the industry’s largest independent life brokerage agency.

Reynolds joined United Underwriters, a Salt Lake City-based regional BGA, nearly 30 years ago and worked to expand their marketing efforts on a national basis.  In 1991, United Underwriters was purchased by Acordia Inc., and, in 1994, Reynolds was appointed President and CEO of Acordia Benefits.

In 1996, Reynolds formed Ascensus Insurance Services, Inc., which went on to become the country’s largest privately-owned life insurance brokerage agency.  In 2000, Ascensus was sold to the BISYS Group.

Reynolds’ industry involvement extends to the professional community, having served as a LUTC and CLU instructor, continuing education chairman and board member of the Utah Chapter of the CLU Society, and past president of the Salt Lake Valley Association of Life Underwriters.

However, Reynolds is also extremely active in his community, serving as a Boy Scout Committee Chair; an active supporter of Golfers Against Cancer; an active supporter of the Utah Psychological Association’s “Healing the Great Divide,” which focuses on uniting community members; and an active supporter of Chamade, which brings together international leaders to focus on perspectives of prejudice.

Named after a founding member of NAILBA, the Mooers Award recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated a lifetime of service not only to the life insurance business and to the wholesale brokerage community, but also through their contributions and services to one’s fellow man and to society in general.  Reynolds is one of only 21 honorees to receive the prestigious Mooers Award in NAILBA’s 26-year history.
